The Tennis Gauntlet: Week #3

Saturday - Sunil. My co-worker. I've played Sunil quite a few times since he joined the company late last Summer. Our first match last Fall, I barely lost 5-7. But Sunil was rusty from months of not playing, and I was at my best. Since then I'm lucky to 'only' lose by 2-6. So I didn't have high hopes going into today's match.

And Sunil didn't disappoint. The final scores were 0-6, 1-6. And as I often like to say: "And it wasn't even that close!" In the first set I didn't even score a single point until after it was 0-4. Yikes! Again, I couldn't get a first serve in to save my life. This was discouraging because during the past week, I've worked on my serve quite a bit, and it seemed I was getting some decent speed and accuracy on it. That along with the usual lack of control - hitting the ball long - meant for a quick morning for me. At least the 1 game I did win was on my serves. Sunil is a lefty and great at hitting the corners, so that was expected.

After my match, Sunil played in another league match and won 6-0, 6-3. Yeah, he's fairly decent....

After the match I met Mark and rescheduled our rained out match from last week to Sunday at 7:00PM.

Sunday - Another rainout. Rained pretty hard from 3:00 to 4:00PM, so Mark called at 5:00 to reschedule for 8:00Pm to give the courts an extra hour to dry off. So I drive out there before 8, and the courts are dry but it starts raining again... Need to reschedule this one again.

Next up: a 15 year old who is a freshman on the high school tennis team. Saw him after his match this week, he had just beaten another player about my age 6-3, 6-2. oh-oh!

McDoogle

Current record (in sets): 0-4

  1. So what happened with the 15-year-old player? Or did you not match racquets with him yet? :)
